This morning I went to purchase a rifle at Walmart and accidentally Mark the wrong answers on the ATF Form which resulted in being denied purchase. This was done electronically and a pop up from the ATF stated I checked yes to three questions which disqualified me and put me on a straw list. What can I do to clear this up? Has anyone ever encountered this before?

I always proof read any that are filled out for me when selling a gun. I ask them to reread the questions to make sure the answers are correct. I also check the info given verses what government ID they are using. Check expiration dates on ID. Address to ID before running it.
I’ll ask Monday to see what is said about this to my Boss.

Just a guess, but maybe a local gun dealer with an FFL license could straighten it out for the price he charges to receive a firearm. Use to be 25.00

I bought Firearms at Walmart as well as many other places over the years and never had a problem. I even tried it then with my concealed carry permit

I don't think those applications are kept/stored for over 30 days. The next gun purchase would require another one. I'd fill out another, CORRECTLY, for a purchase and see where it leads.

When I was completing the electronic application at WM, I reviewed it before I submitted and everything look correct. That's why I was especially shocked when the clerk came back telling me that I had checked out some disqualifying statements. I've completed this form many times over the years with no problem

Curious: how can they do this?

The clerk actually called ne to the back counter to read the electronic respose on the computer stating the 2 disqualifying 'yes' answers to question in sect 11 (if i recall correctly). but Im sure I answered 'no' to those questions on the form.
I'm wondering was this denial sent to the ATF for f b i and now permanent part of my record which is going to require me to contact them?

Your 4473 is retained per law because you answered "yes" to disqualifying questions. Walmart would not have tansferred the 4473 for NICS verification because of that. You have the ability to correct answers, in your case the disqualifying ones....but somehow you doubled down on your answers??

I messed one up last week and tore it in half.

Found out from the girl checking me out, that's a no no no.

I do a lot of business there so she didn't fuss at me to bad.

I completed an electronic 4473 and was not given an option to correct the answers.

Snippet from the link, I'm assuming you'd have to do a handwritten one per the instructions now. How does Walmart process non digital forms...no clue. Good luck finding anyone at Walmart with enough knowledge to assist and get it corrected.

  1. Forms 4473 must be saved in an unalterable format. The original Form 4473 must be retained and may not be deleted, amended, replaced or otherwise altered.
    • If errors are found on a Form 4473, corrections may be made to a copy of the original Form 4473. This copy should be attached at the end of the original Form 4473 and all changes must have initials, and dates must be visible on the corrected copy.

Any firearms dealer has to retain a copy of ever 4473 regardless of whether or not a proceed is given. That copy is "supposed" to only stay in the store where it was filled out. E4473s are also not "supposed" to be recorded by the ATF. It was a simplification and speeding up of the process

Now never go to Walmart and support your local stores

today I spoke with a sales person at a differnent walmart who informs me that they do not send the denied 7743 outside the store and after 30 daysI can purchase at walmart again. I am most relieved that it will not go to the feds.
