It’s likely you’ve heard of people who can org*sm when someone touches a part of their body not commonly referred to as an erogenous zone, but what about body parts as sexually divisive as feet?
Foot fetishes are fairly common, and feet are a very sensitive part of the body, but when we hear tell about someone who reports having had an org*sm through that part of their body, something about sounds improbable to say the least.
According to the experts however, footgasms can indeed happen.
Dr Daniel Atkinson, GP Clinical Lead atTreated.com, told Metro.co.uk that the org*smic potential of feet may actually have a lot to do with the brain.
He said: ‘The feet have a lot of nerve endings (a bit like the hands) and whilst they’re not usually considered an erogenous zone, for many people they can be extremely sensitive and, for some, are associated with sexual pleasure.
‘The most powerful sexual organ is the brain, so if feet are your “thing” and you’re in the right situation with the right person, then, yes – it’s possible for some people to org*sm just from having their feet touched in a sexual way.’
Jessica Leoni, sex and relationship expert with dating siteIllicitEncounters.com, agrees that footgasms are possible, but stipulated that they’re not common.
She said: ‘The feet are an erogenous zone and massaging the feet and sucking and licking the toes are extremely pleasurable to many people.
‘However, achieving org*sms through foot massage is extremely rare.’
She also highlighted a specific case of a woman who had ‘regular org*sms through her feet’.
She said: ‘There is a medical case in the Netherlands where a 55-year-old woman experienced regular org*sms through her feet.
‘The org*smic sensations — which occurred in her left foot — were sudden, not brought on by sexual desire or thoughts, and occurred about five to six times a day. The sensation traveled up her left leg to her vagin*, and she said the experience felt exactly like an org*sm achieved during sex.
‘She was treated by the neuropsychiatrist Dr. Marcel D. Waldinger, who wrote a scientific paper on the case.
‘Magnetic resonance images (MRI scans) of the woman’s brain and her foot showed no abnormalities, although another test revealed some differences between the nerves of her left and right feet.
‘Stimulating her left foot with an electric current induced a spontaneous org*sm in that foot.
‘The woman was treated with an injection of anesthetic into one of her spinal nerves — the nerve that receives sensory information from the foot — and the org*sms stopped completely.’
Annabelle Knight, sex expert at Lovehoney, said: ‘Foot org*sms are incredibly rare and it is unlikely that you will be able to achieve an org*sm through foot stimulation alone.
‘The ancient practice of reflexology indicates that certain pressure points in your feet can trigger sexual arousal but few experts believe this is enough to achieve a full org*sm.’
If you still want to explore the erotic possibilities of your feet, Annabelle said: ‘The key pressure point to target is the soft area of skin just behind the toes but before you get to the foot arch. This sends signals back to the core of the body, heightening genital stimulation and putting you in the mood for sex.
‘It is worth remembering, too, that the feet are erogenous zones in their own right, with 7,000 nerve endings – think how ticklish the undersides of your feet are.
‘Rather than trying to achieve an org*sm on its own through foot play, treat it as a sensual part of your overall foreplay – one measure to build stimulation and eroticism.’
